how interesting that you write of changed contexts and beauty making a bridge or building worth keeping as an attraction when it has outlasted its function. My CCD essay is about the use of church buildings in their historical contexts and I identified with your thoughts - though, like you, I will not risk saying more for fear of putting my foot in it. Suffice to say that I am profoundly grateful that St. Paul's is not listed and, yes, I think that the 20th Century Society are a wonderful institution. Now, about replacing those windows........ Forget about that! As you say, some wonderful countryside beckons and you can admire the housing without having the responsibility of owning it: win win. Trust that the weather is good for you and that you don't run into the British Army deploying those flashing, banging weapons which so captivate the military mind whilst you're in the vicinity of Blandford! Keep your head down.......

Walking Home 2009
The route was 540 miles, from Paris where Jennifer and I honeymooned in 1986, to Oadby where I live and work today. It's a bit wiggly because friends, family, significant places and affordable accomodation don't fall on a straight line. Click here for a larger view.
