Hi Simon more interesting reading and great photos - thanks. We projected your photos thus far (with some pertinent comments!) as a Powerpoint after church yesterday. Also produced hard copies of your blog (reams of paper - you are prolific!) for people who don't blog (!) to read. Will, perhaps, make this a regular venture to keep St. paul's updated and to keep you in mind. Got told off by Jennifer for continuing to remind her of you - she's missing you my boy.....! Portsmouth has improved vastly over the years - visited a lot in my younger days and signed off my last RFA ship (RFA Olna) there in 1979. It's well worth a visit these days and, yes, a pint of Abbott always goes down well..... Where are we walking to this week? Look forward to lots more interesting reading and, re the curry, don't forget that it's our treat for a "proper" Leicester curry at The Paradise on your return. And, of course, there is still the Farmpark and a pint of Skydiver to look forward to. Enough! You will be getting homesick. Met David Runcorn at the Reader AGM on Saturday and he asked to be remembered to you. Great, insightful speaker and a (wicked?) sense of humour - lovely bloke. Take care.
I'm a 46 year old husband, father of two and vicar in the parish of Oadby, Leicestershire. Between Easter and Pentecost in 2009 I walked home from Paris to Oadby - a peculiar kind of pilgrimage.
Buy the book!
Walking Home is now available as a 282 page book, in print and digital download.
Walking Home 2009
The route was 540 miles, from Paris where Jennifer and I honeymooned in 1986, to Oadby where I live and work today. It's a bit wiggly because friends, family, significant places and affordable accomodation don't fall on a straight line. Click here for a larger view.
