Walking verse for Day 11

My walking verse for today was Job 18.8 in which one of Job's less than helpful friends tries to console him about the way things are. "[The wicked] are thrust into a net by their own feet, and they walk into a pitfall".
Except that it's not like that and Job knows it. Bildad the Shuhite (great name) tries to claim that the wicked always get themselves into trouble, walking into disaster. Yet Job is suffering and not because of his wickedness.
I sympathise with Job and find his friends infuriating. They try to explain too much. Job doesn't need to be convinced, he needs companions who hang in there with him.
I'm aware of people back home who are going through all sorts of challenge and difficulty at the moment. I've communicated with some by email and it's hard not to sound patronising or simplistic in a couple of sentences. I hope they know that in spirit I stand with them, and pray for them and their concerns.
Lord, in the face of the mystery of suffering, give us good companions and trusting faith. Amen.
