I walked to town yesterday to buy a new battery for the pedometer that's been sitting in a drawer for the last couple of years. By doing some counting and measuring, I reckon that:
My average walking speed is 2.5 mph (4 kph) on country footpaths and 2.5-3mph (4-5 kph) on pavements.
My average stride length is 80cm (not quite sure of this, I measured it as 74, 80 and 83cm over three different routes in a total distance of about 2km).
These figures mean that in one hour of walking, I take about 5000 steps. That's 83 steps per minute.
